Job Description

Pinterest operates a digital platform that connects millions of global users with creative inspiration and ideas. Behind the consumer-facing product lies a sophisticated infrastructure ecosystem responsible for platform reliability, performance, efficiency, and measurement. The company is seeking a Data Scientist II for its Infrastructure Data Science team to help make these critical technical systems more intelligible, measurable, and actionable.

In this position, the professional will collaborate closely with engineering and cross-functional groups to enhance infrastructure health, quality, and operational efficiency. Depending on assignment focus, the work encompasses areas such as shopping infrastructure, app performance, metrics quality, governance, and site reliability. Responsibilities include building analytical frameworks, designing experiments, auditing data quality, and translating ambiguous technical challenges into clear recommendations for platform partners.

This role suits analytical professionals who possess a strong technical background in data science, enjoy tackling messy datasets, and want to build scalable measurement foundations. Candidates must be comfortable operating independently within a dynamic environment, balancing long-term projects with fast-turn inbound requests, and communicating technical findings clearly to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define, measure, and enhance the quality and efficiency of infrastructure systems
  • Construct and refine dashboards, metrics, and analytical frameworks to make technical systems actionable
  • Strengthen data foundations through metric audits, pipeline improvements, and data quality enhancements
  • Design and analyze experiments to quantify how infrastructure modifications impact user experience and business results
  • Convert vague technical problems into clear analytical workflows and recommendations for engineering partners
  • Manage high-priority investigations regarding platform performance, cost, reliability, and measurement quality
  • Identify methods to optimize infrastructure across performance, shopping systems, governance, and reliability domains

Requirements

  • Proficiency in SQL and analytical programming
  • Experience working with imperfect, messy data to construct reliable metrics and datasets
  • Background in contributing to production-ready data pipelines or measurement systems
  • Foundation in experimentation, analysis design, and result interpretation
  • Ability to translate ambiguous problems into structured analytical workstreams
  • Cross-functional communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Capacity to operate independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic setting

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Applied Math, Biostatistics, or equivalent practical experience
