Job Description

This director role leads two people-function initiatives at Freshworks: overhauling how performance is managed, and moving toward ongoing, always-on employee listening. The director sits in a compact, senior workforce strategy and organizational development group, owns their area largely independently, and gets results by persuading colleagues rather than supervising a large staff. Much of the work runs through people outside the director's reporting line.

On performance, the aim is to replace a heavy, subjective process with a leaner, AI-supported method that managers find easier to use, that produces more even results, and that connects more clearly to business outcomes. The director designs the whole system, including the method, software, calibration and the experience for managers and staff, and aligns HR, compensation, HR technology and business partners on delivery. Listening work covers the continuous feedback platform, short pulse surveys and how findings turn into executive action, and includes starting a cross-team group focused on employee experience. Change management and training run through both efforts, and success is measured by lasting behavior change rather than mere compliance.

The candidate needs eight to twelve years across human resources, people strategy, or organizational effectiveness, or in an adjacent field, and must have led complicated cross-functional change from design through rollout. A deep background in performance-system design, organizational development and change management is essential, with the poise to present to senior executives and close attention to detail. Knowledge of continuous listening platforms is useful. The position is hybrid and based at the San Mateo headquarters, with expected onsite presence three days a week, Tuesday through Thursday. Base pay ranges from $199,750 to $246,750, and a target bonus applies.

Responsibilities

  • Rebuild performance management, including method, tooling, calibration and the manager and employee experience.
  • Keep senior leaders on board by presenting and refining the work with them in real time.
  • Own the listening strategy and its programs, including the continuous platform and pulse cadence.
  • Shift from periodic survey rounds toward always-on listening.
  • Build leader-facing tools and messages that make listening data practical.
  • Monitor participation, sentiment and program health, and bring forward clear recommendations.
  • Launch and run a group that spans functions and focuses on employee experience.
  • Plan change management and leader training for both programs, and measure uptake.

Requirements

  • Eight to twelve years of growing responsibility across human resources, people strategy, or organizational effectiveness, or in an adjacent field.
  • Record of leading complex cross-functional change from design through delivery.
  • Deep skill designing performance systems that are fair, scalable and defensible.
  • Strong change management and enablement capability.
  • Executive presence for presentations to C-suite audiences.
  • Good rapport with colleagues in finance, strategy and operations.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with continuous listening approaches; having driven leaders to use listening tools is a major advantage.
  • An AI-oriented outlook on designing people programs.
  • Hands-on background in org design and development work.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Health options covering dental, medical and vision care, plus disability and life policies.
  • Equity, an employee stock purchase plan, flexible PTO and spending accounts, commuter perks and wellness support.
  • Adoption and parental leave.
