Job Description
Canva is seeking an Engineering Director to lead its Core IT function, a group of more than 80 staff spread across Oceania, Asia, Europe and the United States. The team keeps everyday operations running, covering campus audiovisual systems, network infrastructure, physical security, new-hire setup, device and access administration, and AI and automation tools for the collaboration stack.
The director sets the IT strategy and converts business priorities into a roadmap that teams can commit to. The job includes improving how employees experience workplace technology at global sites, from joining the company through equipment, tooling, permissions, AI and automation. It also means building a measurement culture that tracks service quality, guides priorities, flags risk early and reports progress to executives. The director personally oversees the most important projects already underway and keeps them on schedule.
The role involves representing IT at company-wide and organisation-level forums and arguing for the funding and alignment the function needs as it expands. The ideal candidate has built internal technology teams of real scale, works comfortably with senior executives and with engineers at a detailed level, understands the financial effects of technology choices, and develops people by creating conditions for strong work.
