Job Description
Monzo wants an Engineering Director to lead its EU Engineering organisation, which supports the bank's expansion across Europe after its Irish launch. The role is full-time and remote within the UK, with a London option. The stated base pay is £170,000 to £225,000, with equity and benefits included.
EU Engineering does not own one product. It partners across the bank with platform, financial crime, customer operations, growth, wealth, core banking and payments teams to take Monzo's offerings into new markets and deliver them locally. The director would lead an engineering group dispersed over the UK, Spain and other remote locations, grow engineering leaders at manager, senior manager and technical lead levels, and align collectives that they do not directly manage.
The remit includes setting Europe's strategy alongside leaders in compliance, risk, operations and data, as well as product and design, guiding market entry, localisation and regulatory demands, and designing structures, operating models and planning routines that can grow across the continent. Influence and relationship-building count for as much as delivery in this role.
A strong candidate has directed large engineering functions through other managers, has worked in intricate organisations where results depend on many groups, and has scaled a business during fast growth, reorganisation or market entry. Comfort with decisions that lack a clear right answer, a balance between long-term strategy and near-term delivery, and experience building leadership teams are all sought.

- Record of putting together strong leadership groups and nurturing successors
