Job Description

Canva is hiring a full-time Engineering Director to lead engineering for Canva Print, the business that takes Canva designs into physical products. The role is listed as on-site. The posting does not name a specific office city for it.

Canva Print runs the whole purchase path, starting with customers finding, designing and ordering print-on-demand items, and continuing through the print partners who make and ship them globally. More than 110 people work in the group spread over Australia, the Philippines and the US, and a technology organisation of over 70 mostly sits in Sydney. The aim is an e-commerce-first experience that grows annual revenue, with sustainability kept central, including the one-print-one-tree initiative.

The director sets technical strategy with Product and Design leads and converts commercial goals into an engineering roadmap that scales. Priorities include laying foundations so that new print lines, mock-ups and customer journeys reach the market faster, turning partner integrations into repeatable platform patterns, and hardening the systems behind global commerce, such as payments and checkout reliability. The role also involves coaching engineering leads, growing a leadership pipeline, being accountable for how good the group's technical decisions are, and explaining trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Practical use of AI, both in customer-facing products and in the team workflow, is part of the remit.

The posting seeks someone who has run engineering teams of real size, weighs long-term trade-offs well, and has a record of delivering against technical roadmaps. Commercial awareness matters, and past work in online retail or marketplaces is a strong plus. The environment is fast-growing and unclear at times, and the role is expected to change as the business scales.
