Wise is seeking an Engineering Lead to join its embedded finance team based in London. This on-site, full-time position focuses on building an advanced embedded finance platform for enterprise partners such as Google, Deel, Ramp, and Agoda. The role supports the company's mission to transform the international payments experience globally.
This is a hands-on technical leadership position suited for an engineering professional who enjoys both coding and mentoring. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with a product manager, business development, and solutions engineering to shape the long-term vision and roadmap. Responsibilities include designing and maintaining services, guiding architectural decisions, and ensuring the delivery of reliable, scalable products.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain the team's services in a hands-on capacity
- Mentor and support a small team of engineers in their professional development
- Drive technical decisions to ensure products are reliable, scalable, and of high quality
- Partner with a Product Manager to establish the long-term vision and product roadmap
- Collaborate across different teams to deliver platform functionality to partners
- Promote software development best practices and high standards for code quality
Requirements
- Proven experience leading and mentoring high-performing engineering teams
- Strong hands-on experience using Java or similar technology stacks
- Deep understanding of microservices and event-driven architectures
- Strong background in designing and optimizing relational databases
- Experience advocating for best coding practices, continuous delivery, and code reviews
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to various stakeholders
