Job Description
Wise is seeking an Engineering Lead to join its embedded finance vertical in London. This on-site, full-time position offers a base salary between GBP 105,000 and 135,000 per year, alongside RSUs. In this role, the selected candidate will help scale an embedded finance platform that enables global enterprise partners such as Google, Deel, Ramp, and Agoda to deliver international payment solutions through their native channels.
This is a hands-on technical position requiring direct involvement in system design, coding, and service maintenance. The role involves close collaboration with product managers, business development units, and solutions engineering groups to define long-term product roadmaps and architecture strategies. The ideal professional will guide technical decisions to ensure platform reliability and scalability while mentoring a compact group of software developers.

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain the services assigned to the embedded finance team
- Mentor and support the professional growth of a small engineering group
- Guide technical choices to guarantee high quality, reliability, and scalability
- Partner with the product manager to establish strategic direction and domain plans
- Collaborate with internal groups across Wise to deliver platform functionality to enterprise partners
- Maintain ownership of team services, products, and adherence to top engineering standards
Requirements
- Demonstrated background leading and mentoring top-tier technical teams
- Extensive practical development experience using Java or comparable technology stacks
- Extensive knowledge of microservices and event-driven software architectures
- Demonstrated ability to design and optimize relational databases
- Experience implementing best coding practices, code reviews, and continuous delivery pipelines
- Strong communication skills for explaining technical subjects to various stakeholders
