Canonical seeks an Engineering Manager to guide teams concentrating on Big Data and MySQL databases within its data platform division. The company develops comprehensive multi-cloud and on-premise data solutions for enterprise clients, spanning big data, NoSQL, caches, analytics, and structured SQL engines like MySQL and Postgres, designed for Kubernetes and cloud machines. This role suits technical managers with a software engineering background who enjoy coaching personnel, maintaining engineering standards, and directly writing code when necessary. Responsibilities
- Lead a team building scalable data solutions for Kubernetes and cloud machines
- Hire, coach, mentor, provide feedback, and lead by example
- Directly contribute code when needed to demonstrate engineering skill
- Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
- Advocate modern, agile software development practices
- Develop and evangelize engineering and organizational practices

Requirements
- Software engineering background, preferably with Python and Golang experience
- Experience running systems in production and at scale, preferably Big Data or MySQL
- Strong judgement regarding people, including motivations, abilities, developmental needs, and prospects for success
- Proven ability to build high-quality, open-source software
- Track record of driving good engineering practices around performance and quality
- Passion for developing and growing people with a history of doing so
Qualifications
- Specialist knowledge in one or more of Spark, Superset, MySQL, or similar technologies
- Prior experience working with open source and building products with the community
