Discord, a platform with millions of daily users who gather around games and communities, is seeking an Engineering Manager for its Platform Security Engineering team. The group safeguards the internal systems engineers rely on, and its mission is to make the protected approach also the simplest one.
The manager leads a team of software engineers who identify and pursue the most meaningful ways to cut security risk across engineering. The team builds streamlined paths for managing identity and access, releasing code, configuring cloud infrastructure and running services.
Responsibilities include defining secure baselines for every cloud environment, handling infrastructure vulnerabilities for an engineering group with hundreds of developers, securing the path software takes from development to production, covering in-house and vendor code, and building identity systems for people and machines. The manager also advises on risk reviews, architecture, threat modeling and code review, weighing security against business needs.
Applicants need at least three years of people management with at least three security engineers, three years securing systems used by millions, and the capacity to draft a roadmap. Cloud experience with GCP, Cloudflare and AWS, coding in Python, TypeScript or Rust, and familiarity with agentic AI and AI security are expected. Responsibilities
- Set security strategy and direct the team toward the largest risk reductions across Engineering
- Build secure defaults for cloud environments and own their protection
- Address infrastructure weaknesses for a fast-moving developer population
- Shield software supply chains at every stage
- Run identity and access systems for human and machine accounts using least-privilege design
- Advise on risk assessments, architecture, threat models and code reviews
Requirements
- At least three years managing three or more security software engineers
- At least three years protecting systems used by millions
- Experience building and securing cloud platforms across GCP, Cloudflare and AWS
- Programming in Python, TypeScript or Rust
- Work with agentic AI and an understanding of AI security
- Ability to write a roadmap, not only follow one
Qualifications
- Knowledge of RBAC, OAuth, zero trust and mTLS
- Experience with Terraform, Bazel, Buildkite or Spacelift
- Container and serverless experience with Kubernetes, Docker or Cloudflare Workers
- Hands-on use of security platforms such as Wiz
