Job Description
This full-time, on-site senior software engineering role is in the United States and sits in the IT Software Engineering team, reporting to the Director of IT Software Engineering. The team is shifting from buying software as a service toward a mix of building and buying. It builds custom internal applications and AI-powered bots on the Elastic Stack, including Elasticsearch, Kibana and machine learning features, to replace costly third-party contracts for IT, HR, finance and operations teams.
The role is an individual contributor position that owns architecture, coding and launch work for internal web tools and chat-style AI assistants. The engineer writes clean React, TypeScript and Node.js code, connects backend services directly to Elasticsearch, and uses AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude and Copilot to speed up delivery. Full operational ownership of production systems is expected.
Bot work is a significant part of the job. Bots are the other major output: the engineer builds and launches internal assistants that rely on LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation and similarity search to handle everyday staff requests. The internal tooling is also meant to serve as reference architectures for Elastic products.
Quality and operations are handled as part of the role. Testing, automated release pipelines, feature flagging and on-call shifts are all part of keeping services dependable. Applicants need at least eight years building and running production web apps, working knowledge of Elasticsearch, and real bot or LLM engineering experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop internal full-stack tools that retire costly SaaS subscriptions
- Architect and deploy internal bots using LLMs, RAG and vector search for routine employee requests
- Connect internal applications to Elasticsearch and Kibana and build reference architectures
- Use AI coding assistants to write code, generate tests and increase delivery speed
- Produce unit and browser-level tests, manage automated releases with feature flags, and join on-call rotations
- Take operational ownership of production systems and take part in on-call rotations
Requirements
- Eight-plus years building and running production web apps with React, TypeScript and Node.js
- Working knowledge of Elasticsearch, covering schema design, index tuning, query work and Kibana dashboards
- Experience with LLM endpoints, similarity search, retrieval-augmented pipelines or chatbot frameworks
- Daily use of AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude or GitHub Copilot, with full responsibility for code quality
- Know-how with test automation, CI/CD, feature flags and on-call duty for production systems
- A bachelor's or master's in a computing or engineering discipline
- Clear communication, sound problem-solving and the ability to turn business needs into technical designs
Qualifications
- Past work on internal developer portals, FinOps tooling or enterprise ticketing automation
- Some exposure to ELSER-based semantic retrieval, blended vector-plus-keyword search, or Elastic's ML features
- Background replacing legacy enterprise platforms with custom software
Core Skills
