Trase is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to create and implement artificial intelligence agents and applications that address customer challenges using Trase OS. Operating within the Leagues industry verticals team, this position involves collaborating directly with users in sectors such as healthcare, education and local government, financial services, and retail. The role spans multiple experience tiers including mid-level, senior, and staff positions, with placement determined by technical depth and autonomy.
This is a hands-on software engineering function featuring direct customer ownership. Professionals in this role will map operational workflows, translate ambiguous needs into technical specifications, and guide solutions from initial prototypes into full production environments. Team members partner closely with product groups, machine learning experts, and core platform engineers to build atop Trase OS while funneling customer feedback back into system development.
Candidates face challenges related to varied customer data quality, security protocols, and evaluating artificial intelligence behavior against real-world operational scenarios. The position requires balancing delivery speed with system reliability and maintainability. Some travel to customers may be required.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate directly with customers to map workflows, determine scope, and establish success measures and acceptance criteria
- Develop production-ready agents, applications, APIs, and integrations utilizing Trase OS
- Integrate customer technology systems, data feeds, and identity providers
- Manage end-to-end delivery through testing, validation, deployment, and operational handoff
- Construct automated tests, system observability, evaluations, and human review pathways into agent workflows
- Apply appropriate data-handling rules, access controls, and audit logging alongside security teams
- Troubleshoot production defects across infrastructure, integration, data, and application layers
- Provide reusable components and product feedback to core platform engineering teams
Requirements
- Experience shipping production software with strong skills in coding, testing, debugging, and API design
- Proficiency in a modern programming language such as Python, Java, or TypeScript
- Experience working with databases, backend services, and external integrations
- Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring tools
- Practical understanding of large language model applications or artificial intelligence agents
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a forward-deployed, product, full-stack, or solutions engineer with substantial coding duties
- Domain familiarity with healthcare, retail, financial services, or state and local government and education sectors
- Experience handling sensitive data and operating in regulated customer environments
- Familiarity with agent orchestration, retrieval mechanisms, large language model evaluations, or enterprise identity systems
