Job Description
Banyan Software seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer to act as a crucial link between its central AI Application Modernization Factory and individual application groups. Founded in 2016, Banyan acquires and holds software companies across the globe that cater to specialized industries. In this position, the engineer will temporarily embed with delivery teams to steer modernization initiatives, foster the adoption of AI-assisted software development life cycle methodologies, and upskill team members.
This hybrid position requires advanced technical skills, knowledge of cloud-native systems, and strong interpersonal and change management capabilities. The professional will write code, establish infrastructure and CI/CD frameworks, and provide feedback to central architects regarding tool capabilities and process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Embed with application teams to provide hands-on technical leadership and drive re-platforming and microservices adoption to AWS cloud-native architectures
- Serve as a subject matter expert on AI Modernization Factory tools like Cursor and Claude Code
- Drive change management and operational workflows to integrate AI-assisted software development practices
- Establish architectural scaffolding, CI/CD pipelines, and Terraform infrastructure-as-code
- Act as a feedback channel to central engineering leadership regarding practical challenges and factory improvements
- Ensure embedded teams adhere to Twelve-Factor App principles, DevSecOps practices, and coding standards
Requirements
- Have at least five years of progressive software engineering experience centered on enterprise applications and modernization
- Demonstrate full stack proficiency spanning front-end, back-end, database, and infrastructure
- Possess expert proficiency in a modern programming language such as Python, TypeScript, C#, or Java
- Bring practical cloud native experience building scalable applications on AWS along with Terraform proficiency
- Show proven ability to assess team dynamics, influence technical direction without formal authority, and drive organizational change
- Demonstrate hands-on mastery in configuring and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or GitLab CI alongside DevSecOps best practices
Qualifications
- Prior background in a consulting, Staff Engineer, or Forward Deployed role focused on technical modernization or adoption
- Direct experience training or mentoring software engineers on novel technologies and methodologies
- Hands-on familiarity with UI frameworks like React or NextJS
- Professional development experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor or Claude Code
- Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker or Kubernetes and serverless architectures including AWS Lambda
