ALX Africa is seeking a Front Desk and Activation Intern based at the ALX Hub in Johannesburg, South Africa. This three-month internship requires a 40-hour weekly commitment. The intern functions as the primary customer service representative for the hub, greeting visitors, managing front-desk operations, and bridging communication between learners and the organisation.
This role combines traditional reception duties with learner support, assisting students with learning management system navigation, onboarding, and general queries. The intern also aids in planning hub events, conducting inventory checks, and supporting recruitment outreach. Responsibilities
- Greet visitors, alumni, and learners with professionalism and warmth at the ALX Hub reception
- Manage front desk operations including visitor sign-in registers, scheduling, and answering email or walk-in inquiries
- Maintain a clean and organised reception area and conduct weekly hub walkthroughs and stock takes
- Support learners with basic technical inquiries related to the learning management system and general program schedules
- Guide learners through registration, onboarding processes, and direct them to appropriate staff members
- Help plan, deliver, and promote hub events, workshops, and learner-led activities
- Assist with clerical tasks such as data entry and the distribution of communication materials like notices and reminders
Requirements
- Maintain a consistent physical presence at the Johannesburg hub with reliability and punctuality
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal abilities and professional presentation suitable for a front desk environment
- Communicate effectively in written and spoken English
- Possess basic computer literacy including email systems and Microsoft Office
