Job Description
Canonical is hiring a Group Financial Controller to lead its accounting function. The Accounting team protects the integrity of the company's financial information and runs a governance framework built on policies, controls and systems. The Group Financial Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for accurate, timely reporting, including judgement calls made with a conservative approach.
The role is home-based within EMEA hours, with a London office base also available. The company is preparing its finance function for public markets, and the leader is expected to bring a systems mindset and some interest in software and technology.
Responsibilities include designing and maintaining controls that address process and system risk, improving policies so the business can scale, and monitoring compliance. The leader oversees weekly, month-end and year-end reviews, from balance sheet reconciliations through to management and statutory accounts. The role also manages external audits, tracks changing regulation across the company's jurisdictions, drives finance system upgrades, and supports sensible use of AI in the team. Managing and mentoring junior accounting staff, and dealing with customers, suppliers, tax bodies and outside advisers, are also part of the job.
The posting wants a professionally qualified accountant who is methodical, detail-driven and composed during closes, and who enjoys tracing discrepancies to their root cause. It does not state a salary.
