Job Description

This leadership position involves guiding a BI Engineering team responsible for scaling a centralized semantic layer, as well as an Analytics team embedded directly within product squads to advance product insights. The incoming leader will spearhead the adoption of a next-generation BI platform, expand self-service reporting, integrate agentic AI capabilities, and establish strategy for the function. The role requires partnering closely with leaders across product, customer experience, marketing, data engineering, and finance to define metrics, shape commercial strategies, and build financial models including customer lifetime value and unit economics.

Candidates suited for this opportunity will possess a proven background in managing data teams composed of managers, engineers, and analysts. The ideal person combines strong SQL proficiency and data warehouse engineering standards with executive-level stakeholder management and a forward-looking strategy for artificial intelligence in analytics. Responsibilities

Lead, develop, and manage a data team spanning BI engineering, pricing, and product analytics
Own the overarching BI strategy, roadmap, and implementation of a governed semantic layer in the new BI platform
Drive organizational adoption of the BI platform and agentic AI through change management across product, customer experience, marketing, and operations
Define core business reporting, KPI consistency, and accurate ownership across all company functions
Support the design and tracking of company and team OKRs alongside senior leadership
Guide the analytics team in deepening engagement with product squads through roadmaps, experimentation, and advanced analytics
Partner with product and finance to build analytical cases, quantify trade-offs, and develop financial models like lifetime value and revenue
Define and deliver Kuda's strategy for AI-assisted analysis and query-reliable semantic models within data privacy guardrails
Collaborate with data engineering on data landing standards, modeling, testing, deployment, and release cycles
Uphold and improve development best practices including version control, code review, documentation, and monitoring

Requirements

Demonstrated experience leading data teams of managers, engineers, and analysts with a track record of personnel development
Strong hands-on SQL skills sufficient to review team output and establish technical standards
Thorough understanding of data development practices including table creation, testing, versioning, and warehouse deployment
Experience designing or scaling a semantic layer or governed metrics layer and defining trusted KPIs
Strong forecasting and modeling experience including lifetime value, revenue, and unit economics
Experience shaping product strategy using data such as pricing, proposition, or tier design
Proven track record of driving BI tool adoption among non-technical teams through influencing without authority
Ability to partner with senior stakeholders and communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
Clear perspective on integrating AI into business intelligence and analytics in a responsible manner

Qualifications

Experience utilizing BigQuery, Looker, and Dataform or dbt
Background working in fintech, banking, or other financial services industries
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted analytics or agentic AI within a business intelligence context
Prior experience with experimentation and advanced analytics methods in a product setting
Knowledge of African markets
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Business, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field
