Moniepoint seeks a Head of Engineering, Payment Gateway to lead the technical direction and architecture of Monnify, the company's online payment acceptance platform. In this role, the candidate will oversee multiple engineering teams through engineering managers, shape the technical roadmap, ensure platform reliability and security within a regulated industry, and direct developer experience initiatives including APIs, SDKs, and documentation. The position is based on-site at the company headquarters in the London office, located at Sea Containers by London Bridge.
The role suits an engineering leader with deep backend expertise who can guide international scalability, multi-currency support, and collaboration across product, commercial, and operations divisions. Candidates will participate in a hiring process that includes recruiter screening, panel interviews with VPs of Engineering, technical assessments, behavioral and technical discussions with the Group CEO, and a technical workshop with the Group CTO.
Responsibilities
- Define the complete technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the Monnify platform across all capability divisions
- Direct multiple engineering teams through engineering managers while setting quality benchmarks and fostering organizational capability
- Oversee the end-to-end developer experience, encompassing application programming interfaces, documentation, software development kits, and integration simplicity
- Facilitate the platform's transition toward multi-currency capabilities and global scalability
- Guarantee the reliability, scalability, and security of the platform in a regulated landscape
- Collaborate alongside product, commercial, and operations groups to synchronize technical investments with business objectives
- Recruit, mentor, and foster the development of engineering managers and senior engineers
Requirements
- More than 10 years of software engineering background
- At least 5 years of engineering leadership experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on, production-level experience writing and shipping Java code
- At least 5 years of experience managing managers within an engineering organization
- Background in payments, fintech, or financial services products with understanding of payment flows and compliance
- Comprehensive knowledge of API-first products, developer platforms, and API integration
- Demonstrated leadership of multiple engineering teams through managers in a scaling organization
- Strong backend engineering capabilities in high-throughput, distributed transactional systems
Qualifications
- Experience building or operating a payment gateway or multi-currency payment platform
