The organization seeks a Head of Engineering for Supply Chain to oversee the software estate powering the physical side of its business. This software tracks, moves, maintains, and accounts for millions of point-of-sale terminals deployed in the field. The role focuses on backend and distributed systems at scale, encompassing inventory, warehousing, logistics, distribution, and repair workflows. This position is not a hardware engineering role, but rather a technical leadership position managing software architecture and a large engineering organization.
The successful candidate will lead approximately 25 engineers—including managers, QA, SRE, and Data Engineering—with team growth expected to reach over 30 members. The role suits an experienced engineering leader with a background in supply chain, inventory, or logistics software within fintech or regulated environments. Candidates must possess deep hands-on Java experience, a history of managing engineering managers, and strong system design capabilities for data-intensive, distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical strategy and architecture for inventory, logistics tools, and repair management software.
- Lead an engineering organization of around 25 team members, including managers, QA, SRE, and Data Engineering.
- Drive the platformisation of inventory and supply chain systems to ensure operational data visibility and consistency.
- Build operationally disciplined solutions that bridge operational practices with software systems.
- Define architecture standards, engineering processes, and quality metrics across squads.
- Collaborate with business and operational stakeholders to translate operational needs into engineering solutions.
- Hire, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers to support team growth.
Requirements
- Have 10 to 15 years of overall software engineering experience.
- Demonstrate at least 5 years of experience leading engineering teams through growth phases.
- Possess a minimum of 5 years of hands-on, production-level Java coding experience as a practising engineer.
- Bring at least 5 years of experience managing engineering managers.
- Have deep hands-on experience in supply chain, inventory, warehouse, or logistics software at scale.
- Show background in fintech or regulated industries with an understanding of device management in payments.
- Exhibit strong backend engineering skills for data-intensive, distributed, and operational systems.
- Demonstrate proven system design ability at large scale managing hundreds of thousands of devices.
