Tide seeks a Head of Engineering to lead the technical direction and delivery for Tide Credit Services. This senior leadership position requires hands-on involvement with software architecture, team mentorship, and strategic growth as the transactional credit platform scales across international markets. Working closely with a cross-functional department of twenty-eight professionals spanning product, design, risk, compliance, and engineering, the chosen leader will oversee automated lending engines and third-party integrations.
The technology stack incorporates Java 17, Spring Boot, JOOQ, Kafka, AWS services including MySQL and PostgreSQL, and modern CI/CD pipelines utilizing GitHub Actions. Responsibilities
- Determine the architectural strategy for the credit platform to support rapid international expansion and high scalability
- Oversee the creation and launch of secure and reliable lending products for members
- Collaborate with risk, compliance, product, and business departments to execute the technical roadmap
- Manage integrations with external partners for payments, credit data, and funding sources
- Participate directly in code review, system design, and high-level engineering decisions
- Promote engineering fundamentals, security standards, and AI-enabled development practices
- Mentor engineering managers and software engineers to foster an environment of ownership
Requirements
- Minimum of ten years of backend engineering experience
- At least three years in senior engineering leadership capacities
- Extensive background in designing and operating fault-tolerant, event-driven, and distributed microservices
- Proven experience integrating AI tools and large language models into development workflows
- Background building systems within regulated compliance environments
- Experience deploying and scaling products across multiple geographic jurisdictions
