Job Description

Wise, known for cross-border transfers and multi-currency accounts, is seeking a Head of Sanctions Service Delivery who will run its sanctions operation from London. The role is listed as on-site and full-time, and the posting describes it as a practical leadership position inside a growing department.

Five Senior Operations Managers report into this role, along with more than 500 sanctions agents spread across the world. Day to day, the holder develops people, sets expectations and checks performance, hires as headcount grows, and forecasts how much staff will be needed to meet demand. Service delivery across every queue is watched so that customers receive timely replies. Irregularities uncovered by process monitoring must be investigated.

Over the next year or more, the post-holder shapes the team's capability: mapping skills, planning training, deciding where people are placed across groups, and leading cross-team projects that require significant decisions and written input. Ongoing partnerships with Compliance, Product, Analytics and Engineering are part of the job. The aim is to become the go-to expert on the processes and tools the sanctions operation uses.

The ideal candidate has spent five to eight years leading sanctions teams and communicates well in speech and writing. Setting goals and holding staff accountable is central, as is reading and projecting team metrics. Comfort working across cultures, countries and functions, managing several projects at once, and travelling when needed are also expected. A CGSS certification or an equivalent, plus extra languages spoken in Wise's operating markets, would stand out.

  • Oversee five Senior Operations Managers and more than 500 sanctions agents worldwide
  • Assess staff performance and encourage a high-performing culture
  • Recruit people as the team grows

  • Maintain working relationships with Compliance and its oversight structures
  • Create a multi-quarter capability roadmap with skills mapping and training
  • Investigate any irregularity surfaced by process controls

Requirements

  • Five to eight years leading sanctions teams
  • Clear written and spoken communication
  • Experience setting targets and holding a team to them
  • Strong analysis and forecasting of team metrics
  • Individual ownership combined with effective teamwork
  • Collaboration across cultures, locations and disciplines
  • Project management for several initiatives at once
  • Readiness to travel

Qualifications

  • CGSS (Certified Global Sanctions Specialist) or a similar credential
  • Additional languages used in Wise's operating jurisdictions
