Moniepoint seeks a Head, Product Control & Accounting to bridge the gap between finance teams and the product and technology platform. Moniepoint operates Africa's largest merchant acquirer, providing a comprehensive financial ecosystem encompassing payment, credit, banking, and management tools for businesses and customers. In this on-site position, the professional will ensure that every pricing adjustment, feature, or new offering is properly designed from a control and accounting perspective prior to launch.
This role suits an experienced accounting professional who can effectively communicate with both engineers and finance colleagues. The person in this position will manage the complete lifecycle from the customer journey through to financial reporting, mapping transactional events to the general ledger and maintaining proper documentation. Candidates should possess extensive expertise in technical accounting standards and a strong background in auditing or financial control within complex environments.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary technical accounting partner for engineering and product teams regarding upcoming features, pricing models, and new offerings.
- Draft technical accounting memos and position papers addressing topics such as revenue recognition and financial instrument classification.
- Establish and maintain the chart of accounts for current and future products to maintain consistency across entities.
- Map every phase of the customer journey, including onboarding, transactions, settlements, fees, reversals, and write-offs, to the correct general ledger treatment.
- Evaluate engineering and product specifications prior to launch in order to identify and prevent accounting and control issues.
- Manage general ledger reconciliations against transaction system data and resolve discrepancies at the source.
- Create and document internal controls for new product workflows to meet strict audit standards.
- Maintain an updated library of accounting treatment documentation for all company products.
- Collaborate with internal audit, financial control, and external auditors on technical accounting inquiries related to products.
Requirements
- Hold an ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting designation.
- Possess at least 8 years of post-qualification experience, including a background in Big 4 audit or technical accounting.
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of IFRS 15, IFRS 9, and broader IFRS standards.
- Bring proven experience in translating system and product designs directly into general ledger structures and accounting treatments.
- Communicate effectively with product managers and software engineers while navigating technical product specifications.
Qualifications
- Background in banking, fintech, or payments, with familiarity in building transaction and ledger systems.
- Prior experience designing or restructuring charts of accounts for multi-product platforms.
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting obligations tied to product design, such as CBN, FCA, or CBK requirements.
- Experience operating within or alongside agile engineering and product development teams.
