Job Description

Zopa is hiring a Senior iOS Engineer in London for its Mobile Platform team. The company describes itself as a mobile-first bank, and its iOS app is central to how customers experience it. Having recently completed a shift to fully native mobile apps, the team is now focused on making iOS fast, dependable, accessible and straightforward for engineers to build on.

The Mobile Platform team develops the infrastructure, tooling and engineering standards beneath customer-facing apps, covering app architecture, shared modules, the design system, observability, developer tools and CI/CD. It does not own individual customer journeys or build features for product squads, which remain accountable for their own experiences and incidents. The engineer's job is to build shared capabilities that let those squads ship safely. Day to day, the engineer designs shared modules, APIs and tooling, uses profiling and observability to surface technical risk, writes production-grade Swift and SwiftUI, and lifts colleagues' skills through pairing and code review. The engineer works with the Engineering Manager, the Principal Mobile Engineer and the Head of Mobile Engineering, and with Product, Design, Backend and Android colleagues. The role is hybrid, with two to three days a week in the London office.

Suited to an iOS engineer with strong experience building customer-facing apps in Swift and SwiftUI and a deep understanding of concurrency, performance, memory management, testing, accessibility and security.

Responsibilities

  • Help set iOS technical direction and standards for the whole company.
  • Design and develop shared modules, APIs, architecture and developer tooling used across teams.
  • Catch technical risks early through data, profiling and observability.
  • Write production-grade Swift and SwiftUI code for both platform and customer-facing work.
  • Lift the skills of other engineers through pairing, code review, discussions and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Backend and Android to reach balanced decisions.

Requirements

  • Strong background building and maintaining customer-facing iOS apps in Swift and SwiftUI.
  • Deep knowledge of iOS development spanning concurrency, performance, memory, testing, accessibility and security.
  • Good architecture and API judgement, favouring simple, maintainable designs.
  • Takes initiative to identify problems and shape practical fixes.
  • Helps colleagues grow through coaching and shared learning.
  • Challenges ideas constructively and changes course when better evidence emerges.

Qualifications

  • Experience in fintech, banking or another regulated, high-trust sector.
  • Track record of building shared libraries, platform capabilities or design systems.
  • Strong practical grasp of UIKit and its role in modern iOS work.
  • Demonstrated success improving mobile CI/CD, release processes and developer tooling.
  • Thoughtful use of AI-assisted development tools.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Flexible working, including the option to work from overseas for as many as 120 days a year, subject to the right to work in that country.
