Ozow is hiring a Junior Software Engineer (AI-enabled) in Cape Town to help build and maintain the software behind its digital payment platforms. This early-career, hands-on role focuses on building software with AI tools, helping migrate parts of existing systems onto modern services, and building features that integrate with large language models. It is a full-time, on-site position for someone with two years of software development experience, including internships or graduate programmes.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain software to quality standards, using AI coding tools and being able to explain all code committed
- Help migrate well-defined pieces of functionality onto modern, AI-native services under senior guidance
- Help build features that integrate with large language models, using embeddings and retrieval-augmented generation
- Investigate and fix bugs, and take part in code reviews and unit testing
Requirements
- Two years of experience as a software engineer or developer, including internships or graduate programmes
- An IT diploma or degree, or equivalent practical experience such as a recognized coding bootcamp
- Working knowledge of at least one of .NET C#, Python or JavaScript/ReactJS
- Regular, thoughtful use of AI coding tools, with the ability to explain and check the code they produce
Qualifications
- Exposure to building with LLMs through personal, university or work projects
- A good grasp of databases and SQL, Git, and how the web works
