EPAM Systems seeks a Lead Cloud Engineer to support the delivery of an Internal Developer Platform, standardizing secure and repeatable infrastructure across on-premises VMware and Azure environments. In this position, the professional will spearhead Azure automation, manage Azure Kubernetes Service operations, and elevate Infrastructure as Code practices to help engineering groups deploy applications securely and rapidly.
This full-time opportunity is suited for a technical expert with a background in Azure cloud engineering and leadership who wants to guide teams in shipping compliant deployments efficiently. EPAM Systems builds technology solutions globally, and this role focuses on creating golden paths, templates, and automated pipelines using tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu, Ansible, and Backstage.
The chosen candidate will work daily with cloud architects and fellow engineers to build modules, maintain image factory pipelines, integrate secrets management, and troubleshoot production environments. The position leverages AI-assisted development practices with GitHub Copilot provided across the project.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Terraform or OpenTofu modules for various Azure services following architectural designs
- Operate and manage daily Azure Kubernetes Service operations including node-pool provisioning and cluster add-on configuration
- Set up identity wiring and secrets integration for Azure workloads using tools like Azure Key Vault and OpenBao
- Construct and maintain Image Factory pipelines for creating Linux and Windows golden images with CIS hardening and scanning
- Run Ansible playbooks for virtual machine post-provisioning and golden-image handoffs
- Assist with Backstage golden-path template integration for provisioning and testing generated infrastructure
- Resolve production issues across automation modules during adoption and implementation phases
- Participate in module testing, documentation creation, and drift detection according to standards
Requirements
- At least five years of direct experience building and managing Azure infrastructure using Terraform or OpenTofu with CI/CD deployment via Azure DevOps
- Minimum of one year of relevant leadership experience
- Production experience managing Azure Kubernetes Service clusters including policy, networking, and namespace handling
- Familiarity with Azure identity systems and secrets integration like Key Vault
- Experience using Ansible for configuration as code, VM post-provisioning, and image pipelines
- Working understanding of Azure networking components such as VNets, private endpoints, and network security groups
- Proficiency as both a Terraform and Ansible developer using GitHub Copilot
- B2 level or higher proficiency in written and spoken English
Qualifications
- Experience provisioning Azure VMware Solution private clouds
- Familiarity with shared image gallery publishing and image hardening or scanning utilities
