Job Description
Monzo is recruiting a Lead Data Scientist to help steer data work at a bank with over 11 million UK customers. The post is full-time and remote within the UK, with London and Barcelona offices available as options. The posted base pay is £95,000 to £130,000, with performance-linked incentive awards and benefits on top.
This is a senior role spanning many teams. The Lead Data Scientist would set the course for how data is used, build practices for running experiments, and help colleagues across the data disciplines share what they learn. Data Science squads at Monzo cover areas such as Borrowing, Growth, Payments, Financial Crime, Wealth and Core. Hiring managers place successful candidates into a squad after the interviews, matching skills and interests to the open roles.
Day to day, the post involves collaborating with heads of product, engineering, design and research on refining product concepts. It also means helping the company understand the finer points of its data, so that new products rest on a solid base. Most routine questions are answered through self-service dashboards, which lets data scientists concentrate on harder business problems.
The ideal candidate enjoys fast-paced cross-functional work, thinks strategically about commercial products, and is happy to coach data scientists and analytics engineers. Candidates should care about how success is defined and measured, be energised by experimentation, and be ready to question established ways of working.
