Job Description
Ebury is hiring a commercially focused Legal Counsel for its Toronto office, on a hybrid pattern of four days in the office and one day working from home. Ebury's Legal Department acts as the first point of advice on legal, regulatory and governance questions across the group. This is a standalone North American role within the global legal team, and the lawyer reports to the Chief Legal Officer, who is based in London.
The work covers a wide range of matters. The lawyer will help shape new products and market entries, with the planned US launch a priority. Duties include drafting and negotiating third-party commercial contracts, such as sponsorship, partnership and intellectual property agreements covering licensing and brand arrangements, and reviewing leases. The role also involves advice on corporate structuring, everyday legal work for Canada and the US, and financial services regulatory issues including licensing, registration, money transmitter rules, safeguarding and conduct. The lawyer will help manage corporate governance for Ebury's North American entities, instruct external counsel, support dispute resolution, and prepare templates, playbooks and training material.
The posting asks for a Canadian or American law degree and at least five years of qualified experience, whether from private practice or an in-house setting. Clear, practical communication with stakeholders at all levels and a proactive mindset are essential, along with the ability to juggle competing priorities.
