Canonical, the publisher of the widely used Ubuntu operating system, seeks a Linux Platform Integration - Ubuntu Systems Senior Engineer to join its globally remote team. In this position, the professional will work across the full Linux stack—spanning the kernel, networking, virtualization, and graphics—to tailor Ubuntu for next-generation silicon and hardware platforms. Collaborating closely with silicon partners and enterprise customers, the engineer will help shape complete system architectures across desktop, server, and Internet of Things (IoT) environments.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement Ubuntu integrations for cutting-edge IoT, desktop, and server-class hardware platforms and software stacks
- Collaborate with partners to deliver an optimized, high-quality Ubuntu experience on their devices
- Contribute technical plans, testing strategies, and quality metrics to influence the holistic user experience on partner platforms
- Serve as a technical lead during customer engagements encompassing full system architectures from the cloud to the edge
- Assist partners in integrating applications and software development kits, building device operating system images, and optimizing software with Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server
Requirements
- Experience with Linux packaging such as Debian, RPM, or Yocto
- Background working with open-source communities and licenses
- Practical experience using Python, C, and C++
- Ability to operate effectively within a globally distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, a STEM field, or a related discipline
- Experience with server technologies including UEFI firmware, GPU computing, RDMA/Infiniband, and virtualization stacks
- Familiarity with graphics stacks and networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DHCP, and HTTP/REST
- Basic knowledge of security best practices in IoT or server environments
- Good communication and public speaking skills
- Background in IoT or embedded systems ranging from boards, SoCs, BMCs, bootloaders, and firmware to operating systems and applications
- Experience utilizing continuous integration automation platforms like GitHub
- Familiarity with performance benchmarking, profiling, and Docker, OCI containers, or Kubernetes
