This position centers on developing large-scale recommendation systems and utilizing an extensive data repository to personalize user experiences across multiple surfaces, including the Homefeed, Search, Shopping, Ads, and Growth. Professionals in this group will engage in rapid experimentation and technological launches while keeping up with ongoing advancements in machine learning methodologies. Responsibilities
- Develop advanced personalization technology leveraging current deep learning and machine learning innovations
- Collaborate across different internal groups to design and refine models for product surfaces like Search, Ads, Homefeed, Shopping, and Growth
- Apply data-driven approaches and leverage proprietary data characteristics to enhance candidate retrieval
- Operate within a fast-paced setting characterized by rapid product releases and experimentation
- Stay informed regarding industry developments concerning recommendation systems
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of professional practice applying machine learning techniques such as recommender systems, user modeling, search, ranking, graph representation learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, or personalization
- End-to-end practical experience constructing big data technologies, large-scale machine learning systems, and data processing pipelines like Spark or Hadoop
- Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, statistics, machine learning, a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Applicant residency within the United States
Qualifications
- Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree focusing on Machine Learning or related disciplines
- Authored publications at prominent machine learning academic conferences
- Working knowledge of AI coding assistants such as Copilot, Cursor, Codex, or comparable tools for development, testing, debugging, and refactoring
- Familiarity with LLM-driven productivity solutions directed at data exploration, SQL tasks, experiment analysis, documentation search, and workflow acceleration
- Specialized knowledge in scalable real-time architectures handling streaming data
- Demonstrated interest in applied machine learning alongside the Pinterest product
