This position is based in Toronto, Ontario, requiring five days per week of in-person attendance at the office. The role splits its focus between people management and hands-on technical work, with roughly sixty percent of time spent coaching a team of ten data engineers and forty percent dedicated to code reviews, architecture evaluations, and technical contributions.

The person in this position will establish execution plans, shape core data initiatives, and build internal developer tooling alongside semantic models to make company data more accessible. Collaboration will occur regularly with product, brokerage, crypto, marketing, data science, machine learning, and business operations departments.

The compensation package includes performance-driven incentives with equity ownership, bonus opportunities, a base pay range between $200,000 and $235,000 CAD, supplemental health and mental health support, a lifestyle wallet, and a commuter stipend.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of ten data engineers located in Toronto
  • Conduct code reviews, evaluate system architecture, and resolve daily technical hurdles
  • Establish project roadmaps and translate ambiguous business needs into clear engineering targets
  • Create developer tools, metadata systems, and semantic models to improve data usability for humans and AI
  • Partner with machine learning, data science, and business operations groups to maintain scalable data pipelines

Requirements

  • Three or more years of engineering management experience
  • Five or more years of software or data engineering background
  • Practical expertise using Python and Apache Spark
  • Familiarity with cloud computing environments such as AWS
  • Working knowledge of data technologies like Databricks, Delta Lake, Flink, Pinot, or Druid
  • Ability to guide execution independently and clarify ambiguous project requirements
