Figma is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead its AI Observability team. Figma provides a collaborative platform that enables teams to brainstorm, prototype, write code, and iterate with artificial intelligence in real time. In this position, you will direct the group responsible for shaping both traditional observability functions and emerging artificial intelligence telemetry systems.
This opportunity is well-suited for a technical leader who wants to influence an early-stage platform depended on by every engineering team at the company. You will oversee a six-engineer group focused on platform reliability, scalability, and telemetry data quality while guiding strategy for metrics, logs, distributed tracing, and artificial intelligence product features.

Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a six-person engineering team focused on observability and artificial intelligence telemetry platforms
- Manage the development of a privacy-safe telemetry pipeline to handle traces, conversations, and model data
- Oversee core infrastructure systems like Datadog to maintain high availability and data quality across metrics, logs, and traces
- Establish technical direction for instrumentation standards, libraries, agents, and operators company-wide
- Investigate and implement automated operational solutions and machine learning-driven anomaly detection
- Collaborate across infrastructure, product engineering, finance, and security departments to monitor system health and cost efficiency
Requirements
- At least four years of experience leading and expanding engineering teams within infrastructure, observability, platform, or artificial intelligence systems
- Proven track record of launching and supporting reliable production systems at scale
- Deep foundational knowledge in distributed systems with a platform-oriented mindset
- Hands-on expertise in observability platforms, artificial intelligence systems telemetry, or both
- Familiarity with current industry tools such as Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or large language model tracing and evaluation workflows
- Demonstrated ability to maintain high operational standards including service level objective design and incident response
Qualifications
- Experience spanning both classic infrastructure observability and artificial intelligence telemetry
- Background in creating telemetry-driven feedback loops for artificial intelligence services and products
- Track record of improving infrastructure cost efficiency, forecasting, and vendor negotiations
- Experience designing organization-wide observability standards and shared agent integrations
- History of applying machine learning techniques to operational automation and root cause analysis
