Figma produces a design and collaboration platform utilized globally for brainstorming, prototyping, coding translation, and real-time teamwork. Because Figma relies heavily on data, the Data Platform maintains the infrastructure supporting core business metrics, product analytics, experimentation systems, and applied artificial intelligence initiatives. This full-time position directs engineering staff, creates technical roadmaps, establishes platform strategy, and collaborates alongside cross-functional divisions including product management, data science, and finance.

This opportunity fits an experienced engineering leader with a background in building data infrastructure who wants to scale high-performing teams in a collaborative setting. The position can be based out of designated US company hubs or handled remotely across the United States. Responsibilities involve balancing immediate delivery schedules with long-term platform investments, making build versus buy decisions, hiring and coaching talent, and ensuring reliable system scalability as organizational adoption increases. Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor an engineering team focused on building and operating data platform infrastructure
  • Establish technical strategy, roadmaps, and delivery execution for the designated sub-area
  • Drive scalability, reliability, and forward-looking strategy as adoption increases across engineering and product divisions
  • Recruit, coach, and develop software engineers and tech leads to foster an inclusive and high-performing culture
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, data science, and finance stakeholders to align on high-priority objectives
  • Evaluate platform vendors and make strategic build versus buy decisions
  • Maintain predictable delivery timelines while balancing short-term execution with long-term investments

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing software engineers, including senior individual contributors or tech leads
  • Demonstrated background in constructing and scaling data platforms or data infrastructure systems within online production environments
  • Strong software engineering background featuring senior or staff-level technical depth prior to entering management
  • Capacity to establish technical direction, prioritize effectively under ambiguity, and communicate clearly in writing
