Job Description
Supabase operates as a Postgres development platform created by developers to serve developers, delivering a comprehensive backend toolset that encompasses Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. The company is currently hiring a Multigres Engineer to join its globally distributed, fully remote team of approximately 400 members spanning over 60 countries. In this position, the engineer will focus on Multigres, an open-source distributed database system designed to bring horizontal scaling capabilities to Postgres.
This role centers on architecting and implementing critical distributed database infrastructure, including consensus protocols, materialization systems, and sharding. The ideal candidate will work alongside networking, infrastructure, and Postgres teams to build query routing logic, develop replication systems, create materialization pipelines for change data capture and migrations, and enhance connection pooling infrastructure. Responsibilities
- Design and implement query routing logic specifically for sharded databases
- Build consensus and replication systems to guarantee distributed durability
- Develop materialization pipelines intended for migrations and change data capture
- Contribute to connection pooling infrastructure and intelligent workload isolation
- Collaborate directly with the open-source community regarding Multigres development
Requirements
- Possess deep technical expertise in distributed databases and systems
- Demonstrate experience with database sharding, relational algebra, and Postgres internals
- Understand consensus protocols including Raft, Paxos, and FlexPaxos along with distributed transactions
- Have experience with stream processing, materialization, and change data capture
- Know how to build robust and performant distributed systems featuring strong observability
- Familiarity with low-latency infrastructure and network protocol optimization
