Job Description

MetroSys is hiring an OT/SCADA Solutions Architect and wants that person to own the architecture and rollout strategy for Ignition SCADA, made by Inductive Automation, across numerous industrial sites. The role is remote and full time, and it is senior and hands-on: turning plant-level and corporate needs into one architecture that can be repeated at every location.

The architect owns the Ignition reference design, including gold images, deployment templates, integration rules and commissioning procedures. Each plant's controllers, networks, databases, historians and legacy supervisory systems must be examined, and links to PLCs, OPC UA and MQTT services, data stores, historians, MES and ERP platforms are designed. Segmentation, remote access and OT security are shaped alongside network and cybersecurity colleagues.

The position also covers gateway failover, backup and restore, and conventions for tags, alarms and historian setup. The architect decides which site-level exceptions deserve adoption into the enterprise design, supports deployment engineers during plant work, and helps map a longer-term SCADA technology plan with client executives.

Applicants should have at least eight years in SCADA, industrial automation, controls or OT infrastructure, three of them in a senior or architecture role. Hands-on Ignition background is weighted most heavily, though the listing notes that architects with strong experience on other enterprise SCADA products may be considered. No salary is specified.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the Ignition reference architecture for multi-site rollouts
  • Set standards for gateways, redundancy, historians, databases, displays and alarm handling
  • Create gold images, deployment templates and reusable reference designs
  • Investigate each plant's PLCs, control layers, networks and field instruments
  • Engineer links between Ignition and PLCs, OPC UA, MQTT, data stores, MES and ERP
  • Partner with OT networking and security teams on segmentation and access controls
  • Specify high-availability, backup, restore and failover arrangements
  • Decide which site variations become part of the enterprise standard
  • Run design reviews, coach deployment engineers and keep architecture records current
  • Build a longer-term SCADA roadmap with client leadership

Requirements

  • Eight or more years in SCADA, automation, controls or OT infrastructure
  • Three or more years in a senior, lead or architecture position on industrial systems
  • Background designing enterprise or multi-site SCADA and HMI systems
  • Strong grasp of PLC integration, field equipment, historians and databases
  • Comfort with industrial protocols such as Modbus, MQTT, EtherNet/IP and the OPC family
  • Experience with segmented plant networks, including VLANs, firewalls, DMZs and IT/OT boundaries
  • Understanding of OT security principles and industrial security design
  • Track record leading design discussions across OT, IT, security, networking and business groups

Qualifications

  • Deep hands-on Ignition skills across Perspective, Vision, Tag Historian and Alarm Notification
  • Gold-level Ignition certification or equivalent Ignition expertise
  • Experience operating multi-gateway or large Ignition estates
  • MQTT Sparkplug and edge computing in industrial settings
  • Work with FactoryTalk, AVEVA/Wonderware, WinCC or iFIX
  • Familiarity with ISA/IEC 62443, the Purdue reference model or NIST guidance
  • Creating standards for multi-plant manufacturers
