Job Description
The Testing and Release Lead role sits within the People Tech team at Wise in Hyderabad. It is a full-time, on-site position acting as the quality lead for complex, high-sensitivity platform rollouts across the People Tech stack, which includes Workday, SmartRecruiters and Absorb. Because these changes are often bundled into wider People Team initiatives, releases cannot always be staged incrementally, so the lead must protect core HR workflows during each launch.
The post is accountable for the overall testing approach and method on implementation and enhancement projects. Responsibilities include leading system integration, user acceptance, regression, integration, end-to-end and post-production testing. The lead prepares test plans, scenarios, scripts, data sets and traceability matrices, manages defects in Jira from triage to closure, and analyses trends to address root causes. Quality metrics and entry and exit criteria are set and enforced, and test repositories and runbooks are maintained in Confluence.
There are no dedicated Business Analysts on these projects, so the lead defines testing requirements from scratch and guides non-technical business stakeholders through test execution. Close work with Workday functional consultants and engineers is part of the job. Responsibilities
- Define and execute the People Tech testing strategy across implementation and enhancement projects
- Lead system integration, user acceptance, regression and post-production testing
- Produce test plans, scenarios, scripts, data sets and traceability matrices
- Guide non-technical stakeholders through hands-on test execution
- Manage defects in Jira and analyse trends to prevent repeat quality problems
- Set quality metrics and report testing risks to project leadership
- Enforce entry and exit criteria and coach team members
Requirements
- Proven test leadership, including setting scope and gates for large enterprise projects
- Ability to work in unstructured environments and define testing needs without Business Analysts
- Experience creating testing structures, quality standards and self-service guidance for non-specialists
- Strong stakeholder management and coordination with People Team process owners
- Understanding of HRIS and ATS workflows across platforms like Workday, SmartRecruiters, Absorb or Visier
- Practical fluency in Jira Software and Jira Service Management, plus Confluence
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and coaching junior testers
Qualifications
- Some familiarity with test automation tooling, API testing or workflow tools such as Workato
- Quality assurance credentials such as ISTQB, or Workday technical credentials and similar HR software qualifications
