Zoox is seeking a Platform Engineer to join the Systems Reliability and Stability team on a hybrid basis. This role focuses on ensuring the upkeep, design, and maintenance of various engineering services that support the development of autonomous vehicles. The SW HIL (hardware in the loop) team works to improve uptime, reliability, and feature sets for system and subsystem testing environments. In this position, you will collaborate with other teams to help adopt testing frameworks, oversee the high uptime of robot testing platforms, and measure and improve their stability, accuracy, and usability.
This opportunity suits a self-starting, motivated, and energetic engineer with a background in supporting in-production services and building infrastructure. You will be involved in all lifecycle phases of rolling out services, ranging from design and deployment to operations, support, automation, and continuous improvement. Your daily work will include handling large data volumes, data processing pipelines, and compute-intensive tasks running on CPUs and GPUs. If you have a strong technical foundation in Python or Golang along with experience in site reliability engineering, this position offers a chance to work on critical infrastructure supporting advanced vehicle testing platforms.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the upkeep, design, and maintenance of various engineering services critical to autonomous vehicle development
- Collaborate with other teams to help them adopt testing frameworks and ensure high uptime of robot testing platforms
- Measure and maintain the uptime, stability, accuracy, and usability of testing and validation environments
- Manage all phases of rolling out services, including design, deployment, operations, support, automation, and continuous improvement
- Work with systems handling large data volumes and data processing pipelines while running compute-intensive tasks on CPUs and GPUs
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or a related field
- Five or more years of experience supporting in-production services, participating in on-call rotations, and handling SRE responsibilities
- Proficiency in Python or Golang
- Experience building and managing infrastructure services
- Experience writing code for system-level automation, building resilient infrastructure, and working with CI/CD pipelines
- Experience building observability stacks, instrumentation, open-telemetry, and Grafana dashboards
- Experience building software services, writing backend APIs, and owning full-stack applications
Qualifications
- Linux system administration experience, troubleshooting kernel issues, and device driver development
- Experience with continuous deployment tools and release management responsibilities
- Familiarity with CI toolchains such as Buildkite and Bazel, as well as test frameworks like Pytest
- Experience writing and managing infrastructure using IaC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Salt
