Supabase is seeking a Platform Software Engineer specializing in Managed Postgres to design, build, and maintain core platform services. Supabase provides a developer-focused Postgres development platform offering a complete backend solution that includes database, authentication, storage, edge functions, realtime, and vector search services. In this fully remote role, you will create scalable, reliable, and secure distributed systems primarily using TypeScript and Go. You will collaborate with product teams from initial design documents through production, manage service performance and reliability, and participate in on-call rotations for large-scale production systems. This role suits engineers with a strong foundation in distributed systems who want to build developer tools globally.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement distributed APIs and services that drive the platform
- Lead projects to boost scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency
- Develop data-intensive workflows, event-driven pipelines, and background jobs
- Establish service SLIs and SLOs while participating in incident response and post-mortems
- Enhance system observability utilizing metrics, logging, tracing, and profiling
- Contribute to continuous integration, continuous delivery, and release workflows
- Collaborate with product teams across the entire lifecycle from design documentation to production
- Draft technical RFCs, clear design documents, and thorough tests
Requirements
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems with a focus on fault tolerance, consistency, partitioning, consensus, and back pressure
- Proficiency in TypeScript or Go with at least five years of experience building production services
- Familiarity with container orchestration and cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS
- Understanding of multi-tenant architectures, data modeling, and API design
- Knowledge of network fundamentals and security best practices
- Experience working with Infrastructure as Code tools, with a preference for Pulumi alongside Terraform or CDK
- Readiness to join on-call rotations for major production environments
Qualifications
- Experience handling Postgres internals, logical replication, or Change Data Capture pipelines
- Background working with workload identity, service meshes, or zero-trust networking
- Familiarity with capacity planning and performance engineering
- Open source contributions related to databases, systems, or runtime tooling
