Job Description

Twilio is seeking a Principal Engineer (L5) to join the Segment Data Pipelines team on a remote basis, operating from permitted states in India including Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. In this capacity, the incoming professional will serve as a core design anchor for data platforms that handle massive streams of information, shaping cloud-native architectures that process hundreds of thousands of events every second. This position is suited for an inquisitive and visionary engineer with extensive experience in building large-scale distributed systems from the ground up, navigating high-stakes technical trade-offs, and exploring the integration of artificial intelligence into real-time data workflows.

The role involves charting the technical direction for core routing components, engineering fault-tolerant and highly resilient environments, and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders such as product managers and architects. Candidates will also have opportunities to prototype and experiment with generative AI and large language models to address systemic challenges in data processing. While the position is remote-first, individuals may occasionally travel for project meetings, functional off-sites, or customer sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Define the technical direction and build composable routing experiences for core data platforms and pipelines
  • Engineer dependable, fault-tolerant distributed systems within cloud environments
  • Lead engineering initiatives through technical influence while balancing performance, cost, and reliability trade-offs
  • Produce architectural blueprints to align engineering teams, architects, and product managers
  • Build prototypes to test how emerging artificial intelligence and large language models can resolve data processing hurdles

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 12 years of professional programming experience
  • Extensive background working with high-scale streaming systems and distributed processing engines
  • Expertise in service design with the ability to model complex, modular interfaces
  • Advanced programming proficiency in Go or comparable concurrent, object-oriented languages
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience deploying generative AI or large language model solutions to tackle engineering challenges
  • Demonstrated technical depth in distributed architectures, high-volume data ingestion, and cloud-native systems

Qualifications

  • Advanced familiarity with high-throughput datastores, container orchestrators like Docker and Kubernetes, and distributed caching layers
  • Practical background using modern CI/CD pipelines and observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana
  • Familiarity with broader artificial intelligence and machine learning infrastructure and workflows
  • Experience operating, managing, and optimizing large-scale AWS cloud infrastructure
  • Track record of fostering technical alignment across distributed engineering groups

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Competitive pay
  • Generous time off
  • Ample parental and wellness leave
  • Healthcare coverage
  • Retirement savings program
  • Support for employee donation and volunteering efforts
