Job Description
This full-time Principal Product Manager role sits in Spotify's Personalization organisation, within the Conversation Product Area, and focuses on Search. Spotify Search processes billions of requests across every market and language, covering music, podcasts, audiobooks, videos and playlists. The position defines product direction for the way several hundred million people look for and find content, and it leads two Search squads, one for results ranking and one for query suggestions. The listed locations are London and Stockholm.
The person will own the whole strategy for search results, spanning ranking, relevance and AI-driven capabilities like AI Overviews and LLM-based re-ranking. Responsibilities include building a multi-cycle roadmap covering retrieval, ranking, relevance, quality, trust and AI-native capabilities, and defining a quality framework that ties relevance, trust, regulatory compliance and UX to measurable results. The role also decides how Search serves as a shared surface for many company strategies, and works with engineering leadership on architecture choices that weigh near-term shipping against the durability of the search infrastructure.
The posting asks for at least eight years of product management experience, including at least three years running search, discovery or retrieval systems for more than 100 million users. A strong technical grasp of ranking, retrieval and evaluation, and experience coaching junior product managers, are expected. The posting does not state a salary or benefits.
Responsibilities
- Define Search Personalization's product direction and a roadmap that spans several cycles
- Drive the move toward AI-native search, including AI Overviews, semantic search and LLM reranking, while managing velocity, quality and cost
- Own how Search quality is judged; build a scorecard tying relevance, trust, regulatory compliance and UX to measurable results
- Build prioritisation frameworks for the many competing demands placed on Search, and brief senior leaders on them
- Lead two squads working on results ranking and query suggestions
- Coach and influence junior product managers
- Work with engineering leadership on architecture decisions that balance short- and long-term needs
- Align cross-functional partners wherever Search intersects with other work
Requirements
- 8+ years in product management
- 3+ years running search, discovery or retrieval products serving 100M+ users
- Deep technical grasp of search systems: how rankers and retrievers work, how to evaluate them, and how relevance pulls against speed, spend and recency
- Experience with AI or ML-powered search features, such as semantic search, LLM reranking or recommendations
- Track record handling many stakeholders with conflicting priorities and scarce resources
- Ability to think at portfolio level and communicate a clear vision to executives
- Skill at turning technical detail into persuasive stories for executives
- Experience mentoring early-career PMs and influencing without direct authority
Qualifications
- Knowledge of audio, streaming or media tech and how content-heavy products behave
- Experience running search as a platform for several internal teams or content verticals
- Background in content integrity, trust and safety, or regulatory compliance in search or discovery systems
