Job Description

Canonical seeks a Product Marketing Lead to oversee product marketing for a designated product portfolio. Operating as a distributed organization since 2004, Canonical produces the Ubuntu operating system and supplies open-source software utilized in artificial intelligence, public cloud infrastructure, data science, and internet of things initiatives. This fully remote position is available to candidates located in EMEA.

In this capacity, the product marketing lead bridges the gap between the market and product engineering teams by shaping pricing strategies, defining target audiences, and articulating value propositions. Responsibilities include managing product launches end-to-end, conducting community and customer research, building competitive intelligence, and developing enablement materials for the sales team. Team members gather in-person globally two to four times per year for strategy alignment sprints.

This opportunity suits an independent, outcome-driven professional with a strong background in B2B or open-source software marketing who excels at translating complex technical features into clear narratives for executive and developer audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Manage product marketing for a designated portfolio area from market thesis to sales enablement assets
  • Define positioning, messaging hierarchies, and messaging consistency across websites and sales decks
  • Lead product launches with cross-functional timelines, tiers, assets, and post-launch reporting
  • Monitor competitor activity to identify loss patterns and create counter-strategies
  • Develop sales enablement materials including battlecards, discovery prompts, objection handling guides, and demo narratives
  • Conduct structured community and customer research such as win-loss interviews
  • Collaborate with web, content, events, and demand generation teams on pipeline-driving campaigns
  • Mentor peers and elevate the overall standards of marketing execution

Requirements

  • Proven product marketing experience within SaaS, B2B software, or open source environments
  • Demonstrated track record of owning portfolio or product positioning and messaging
  • Evidence of managing product launches that impacted business outcomes like adoption, win rates, or pipeline
  • Strong technical curiosity to comprehend products beyond basic datasheets and engage with engineers
  • Proficiency in utilizing data to evaluate campaigns, test hypotheses, and iterate
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across sales, marketing, and product without formal authority
  • Expertise in technical storytelling tailored for both executive and developer audiences

Qualifications

  • Experience marketing developer products, infrastructure, security, or IoT categories
  • Familiarity with commercial open-source business models and communities
  • Background in both sales-led and product-led growth motions and handovers
  • Technical public speaking experience at webinars, conferences, or in public forums
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring other product marketers
