Job Description
Ebury is recruiting a Senior Software Engineer for its Money Flows work in Sydney. The job sits within the engineering department and follows a hybrid pattern of four days in the office and one day working from home. The role centres on Ebury's core transactional platform, which handles multi-currency accounts, incoming funds and outgoing payments for clients and internal operations teams.
The engineer will lead the design and build of the next version of the global platform, including cross-border payment flows and international fund collections. The posting asks for full ownership of the services built, from system design through to deployment and day-to-day production health. The role also involves working with product and operations colleagues to turn financial requirements into technical solutions, mentoring less experienced engineers, and collaborating with distributed teams in other regions.
Ebury describes itself as technology agnostic and places more weight on engineering craftsmanship, problem-solving and architectural thinking than on any particular language. The posting lists a proven record of building complex, highly available systems at scale, and prior work in payments, fintech or banking that covers transactional consistency, ledger systems and multi-currency handling. Work with distributed systems, asynchronous messaging, relational databases and monitoring is also expected. The current stack includes Python, Django, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform and Datadog.
Responsibilities
- Lead the build of the platform's next version, including cross-border payment flows and international fund collections
- Own the services built, from initial design through deployment and production health
- Drive product initiatives from start to finish alongside product and operations colleagues
- Coach engineers with less experience, encouraging solid code reviews and high standards
- Work with senior engineers and remote teams in other regions to shape modular services
Requirements
- Record of designing and running complex, highly available systems at scale
- Strong focus on clean code, design patterns and unit and integration testing
- Prior work in payments, fintech or banking, including transaction consistency, ledgers and multi-currency handling
- Fluent in one major server-side language
- Hands-on work with distributed systems, message queues and relational databases
- Track record of shipping APIs, wiring in third-party systems and putting monitoring and alerts in place
- Clear written and spoken English for technical and non-technical audiences
Qualifications
- Interest in the current stack: Python, Django, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform and Datadog, although the posting does not expect knowledge of all of it on day one
Core Skills
Benefits
- Competitive base salary plus a discretionary performance-based bonus
- Structured training and support for professional certifications
- Exposure to a dynamic international environment with large scale and high visibility
