Freshworks seeks a Senior Engineering Manager for its Billing Platform based in Bengaluru on an on-site working schedule. This leadership role involves guiding engineering teams that build core cloud-native systems like billing, monetization, and metering services for a global SaaS product suite. The position suits an experienced software leader capable of defining technical strategy, driving operational excellence, and managing both engineers and managers of managers. Responsibilities include shaping long-term system architecture, partnering with cross-functional business stakeholders, and establishing rigorous engineering standards for high availability.
Responsibilities
- Formulate and drive the long-term architectural vision and technical strategy for core platform services
- Recruit, lead, and mentor high-performing engineering teams and engineering managers
- Collaborate with Product Management, Finance, Pricing, and Customer Success to convert revenue workflows into scalable solutions
- Set robust operational standards, SLAs, and SLOs to maintain high performance and resilience across distributed cloud architectures
- Execute platform delivery roadmaps while balancing near-term business demands against architectural debt
- Communicate complex technical concepts to executive stakeholders and guide cross-team technology investments
Requirements
- More than 15 years of total software engineering experience
- Minimum 5 years of engineering management experience leading multi-disciplinary teams or managers of managers
- Technical expertise in distributed systems, microservices, APIs, cloud-native architectures, and large-scale data platforms
- Demonstrated background in developing shared platform features utilized by multiple products
Qualifications
- Prior domain background in subscription management, billing architectures, monetization engines, or enterprise fintech platforms
- Experience managing engineering managers or leading sub-functions within high-growth SaaS environments
- Familiarity with multi-tenant cloud platforms like AWS or GCP, event-driven architectures, and modern observability stacks
