Job Description
The Senior Engineering Manager II role takes charge of the recently created Risk API group in the Servicing Platform squad. It is a full-time, on-site position in London and is described as a high-impact leadership role combining architectural strategy with the growth of the team. The Risk API supports real-time assessment of transaction and user behaviour risk, and the role is the technical authority for its design, delivery and operational excellence.
The role is the main technical bridge linking quick-paced product groups with compliance-critical financial crime groups, which means clean, scalable API contracts and strong data governance. Responsibilities include designing the core Risk API and its data schemas, and defining an immutable ledger that records every platform risk evaluation. That ledger must support debugging, auditability and external regulatory reporting. The lead also insists on firm rules for data accuracy and provenance, and builds solutions that can scale across several risk domains.
The lead manages and mentors the current engineers, who are at IC2 to IC4 levels, and drives recruitment to grow the team, defining roles, processes and an engineering culture. The role sets engineering standards that will underpin the wider Risk Assessment Group, and is responsible for availability, latency and SLAs and SLOs for a critical real-time service. The posting seeks someone who has defined and owned an architectural roadmap for a mission-critical platform, can build a team of five or more engineers quickly, and can make final technical decisions across Product, FinCrime and other engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver the core Risk API, including its contracts and data schemas
- Define an immutable ledger of platform risk evaluations with full auditability
- Hold the platform to firm rules on data accuracy and data provenance
- Manage and mentor the engineering team and lead recruitment to grow it
- Establish engineering norms and a culture built around performance
- Serve as the technical counterpart for Product, FinCrime and fellow engineering heads
- Own availability, latency and SLA and SLO health for the real-time risk service
Requirements
- Proven ability to define and own an architectural roadmap for a mission-critical platform
- Ability to work independently and turn ambiguous goals into engineering plans
- Experience running full-cycle hiring and building an operating model for a new team of five or more engineers
- Ability to make and communicate technical decisions across Product, FinCrime and engineering stakeholders
- Previous work creating and running large-scale product or service platforms
