Wise is looking for a Senior II/Lead Software Engineer to join the Global KYC and Onboarding squad within its Servicing department in London. This on-site, full-time role involves working on core production infrastructure that handles personal onboarding verification, business onboarding verification, and the Wise Platform verification for B2B operations. The engineer will help scale verification systems that served millions of customers and moved billions of pounds globally. The position focuses on transforming the verification lifecycle into a configuration-driven product, building scalable microservices, and utilizing machine learning and artificial intelligence to enhance decision-making quality and operational efficiency.
This role suits an experienced backend engineer who can shape architectural decisions across multiple services, lead technical initiatives, and elevate engineering standards through mentorship and cross-team collaboration. Working alongside cross-functional groups including frontend and mobile developers, product managers, data analysts, and designers, the engineer will create fast, intuitive verification flows that help customers access global banking and support families across borders.
Responsibilities
- Design, construct, and maintain high-throughput, scalable backend services utilizing Java, Spring Boot, and cloud technologies
- Spearhead technical projects aimed at enhancing the reliability, performance, and automation of verification platforms
- Partner with product managers to convert business needs into operational technical solutions
- Coach junior engineers by conducting code reviews and offering technical direction
- Formulate technical strategies and guide architectural choices for verification infrastructure
- Develop internal tools to support the efficiency of verification agents
- Contribute to the engineering culture by sharing knowledge and promoting best practices
Requirements
- Possess over 10 years of experience with Java 8 or higher
