Wise seeks a Senior or Lead Product Engineer II to join the Contacts team in London on a full-time, on-site basis. Wise operates a platform that lets people manage money without borders. The Contacts team manages the end-to-end recipient experience, covering the scalable platform that secures tens of millions of bank accounts, intelligent search algorithms, local integrations like Pix, and the customer-facing screens. This core team operates in an agile environment where engineers collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and analysts across the London and Tallinn offices. If these services experience an outage, the wider Wise platform goes down.
This role suits an independent engineer ready to steer the technical strategy for backend solutions that support the recipient user experience. Professionals will focus on scaling and constructing a high-caliber recipient management platform. Responsibilities
- Drive the technical vision for the backend architecture supporting recipient user experiences
- Scale up and build recipient management products
- Collaborate with designers, product managers, and analysts in an agile setup
- Design, deploy, and maintain clean RESTful APIs
- Write testable code while following Test Driven Development principles
Requirements
- Experience working with large scale distributed systems
- Years of Java 8+ knowledge
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases, schema design, and query optimisation
- Strong product mindset with a focus on data-driven, customer-centric decision making
- Experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining clean RESTful APIs
- Commitment to best coding practices, code reviews, and open feedback
