Vercel is seeking an experienced legal professional to join its team as a Senior Legal Counsel focusing on product matters. This is a senior individual contributor position reporting to the VP of Legal. The employer operates as an agentic infrastructure company, helping builders create and launch software with speed and security, serving clients such as OpenAI, PayPal, and Ramp.
This role suits a business-minded generalist who enjoys fast-paced, hyper-growth environments and wants to enable product innovation and shipping velocity. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Design, and Security teams to guide initiatives throughout the complete product development lifecycle. Responsibilities include resolving regulatory and legal challenges, crafting scalable processes, and occasionally handling commercial transactions.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams to support product initiatives while balancing speed with risk management
- Identify and resolve issues concerning privacy, data security, artificial intelligence, platform safety, marketing, competition, and intellectual property
- Translate shifting legal landscapes and market expectations into practical guidance
- Create scalable processes and draft templates to help the organization ship products faster
- Participate in special projects and handle legal support for sales, partnerships, procurement, and M&A transactions
Requirements
- Admitted to the California Bar or eligible for the Registered In-House Counsel exception in good standing
- Minimum of eight years of legal experience, including at least four years focusing on product law at a software company
- Background counseling product and engineering teams through the entire product development lifecycle
- Understanding of cloud services, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS business practices, and global regulatory requirements
- Ability to independently negotiate and manage technology agreements with vendors, partners, and customers
- Availability to work on-site in San Francisco three days per week
Qualifications
- Degree in computer science or a technical background in web software engineering
- Prior experience dealing with commercial transactions, intellectual property, open source software, and platform safety
- Prior hands-on usage of Vercel products and services
