Job Description

This full-time Senior Manager, Deployed Engineering position is listed as remote, although the company is headquartered in San Francisco. Fieldguide creates software for advisory, audit and tax professionals at large accounting firms and aims to make their work more automated and efficient. The company is venture-backed and at a growth stage.

Forward deployed engineers spend time with practitioners inside major audit firms, prototyping AI agents on live workflows and delivering production code. One open challenge is generating verifiable citations from complicated spreadsheets, so auditors can connect each conclusion to its proof. This position starts as a player-coach role, pairing hands-on delivery with team building, and reports to the CTO and co-founder while working with product, engineering and customer leaders.

The manager leads significant customer rollouts, including single-tenant and government cloud setups with regulated data where audit methods vary by firm. The person writes production code, serves as the lead technical contact for customers, and advises partners, CIOs and audit executives on where AI agents fit in their work. Over time, attention shifts to hiring and mentoring engineers and converting field experience into reusable guides, utilities and measures.

Applicants should show at least five years leading customer-facing deployment or solutions work, recent hands-on coding, and the poise to deal with senior stakeholders in regulated settings. Compensation is described as competitive and includes meaningful ownership. Additional perks include flexible time off, a 401(k), wellness support from day one, reimbursement for technology and home office costs, and flexible schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Lead major customer deployments from scoping through production, including government cloud environments
  • Write production code and build agents, integrations and tools with the team
  • Act as the top technical voice for customers and advise partners and audit leaders on AI agents
  • Recruit, coach and develop engineers who can build and work with customers directly
  • Turn deployment lessons into reusable guides, utilities and measures that shorten time to value
  • Spot recurring patterns across deployments and help turn them into platform features with product and engineering

Requirements

  • Five or more years of leadership in roles that deploy technology for customers, such as forward deployed or solutions engineering
  • Recent experience writing production software
  • Experience guiding or mentoring engineers and eagerness to grow an early-stage team
  • Comfort presenting to senior enterprise stakeholders in regulated or complicated settings
  • Sound judgment on customer-specific work versus platform needs, and willingness to challenge scope
  • Enthusiasm for applying AI agents to high-stakes professional work

Qualifications

  • Background at a Big 4 accounting firm or a major consultancy, for example Accenture, McKinsey, BCG or Bain (bonus)
  • Familiarity with audit, accounting, risk management or regulatory compliance (bonus)
  • Practical history of running LLM-powered or agent-based software live for customers (bonus)
