In this role, the incumbent will take charge of interactions with the SEC regarding digital asset trading, market structure, and issuance rules. Responsibilities include formulating comment letter strategies, engaging directly with regulatory staff, and converting complex regulatory changes into practical insights for internal teams. The candidate will collaborate closely with legal professionals to evaluate regulatory risks and explore potential exemptions or no-action paths.
Responsibilities
- Manage Coinbase engagement regarding active and upcoming SEC rulemakings focused on market structure, trading, and issuance
- Formulate and drive the comment letter strategy addressing SEC proposals that impact digital asset markets
- Establish and maintain professional connections with SEC commissioners and staff members
- Convert proposed and final regulatory mandates into clear internal guidance for product, legal, and executive teams
- Collaborate with the legal department to evaluate compliance risks and review paths for exemptive relief or no-action letters
- Speak on behalf of the company in external regulatory engagements and industry coalitions concerning market structure
Requirements
- Possess at least 10 years of background in securities law, corporate finance, or market structure policy
- Demonstrate hands-on involvement working at or with the SEC regarding rulemaking procedures
- Exhibit thorough familiarity with the Administrative Procedure Act and SEC rulemaking mechanics
- Bring substantive knowledge in either corporate finance mechanics or trading market structure
- Show proven capability in translating intricate regulations into actionable steps for cross-functional groups
- Maintain the ability to apply generative AI responsibly while preserving human oversight for workflow efficiency
