Job Description
Rightway seeks a Senior Manager, Infrastructure to lead the technical group responsible for the platform supporting all company products. Operating remotely, this position blends engineering execution with team leadership, requiring the candidate to guide a small squad of infrastructure specialists while personally writing code for complex initiatives. The underlying environment runs on AWS and Amazon EKS, utilizing Terraform, Helm, Bitbucket Pipelines, and Argo CD to manage systems that process protected health information. The engineering group operates with an AI-native approach, integrating artificial intelligence tools into daily workflows and encouraging team members to establish strong standards around these technologies. The role involves close collaboration with data, security, compliance, and product engineering stakeholders to align on strategic priorities, manage backlogs, and maintain robust platform reliability, backups, disaster recovery, and observability.
Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and mentor a team of infrastructure engineers
- Oversee the infrastructure backlog, including intake, prioritization, sequencing, and delivery commitments
- Collaborate with security, compliance, data, and product engineering leaders to establish priorities and communicate tradeoffs
- Administer the company AWS environment, EKS clusters, and GitOps deployments using Argo CD
- Write and review infrastructure code using Terraform, Helm, and pipeline tools for high-risk projects
- Direct the CI/CD platform responsible for building, testing, and promoting services into production
- Collaborate with partner teams to manage data storage technologies such as Postgres, Redis, Kafka, and warehouse infrastructure
- Implement security and compliance safeguards within the platform to aid with HITRUST, SOC, and client security audits
- Oversee disaster recovery, backup systems, and platform observability
- Participate in the on-call rotation and handle initial incident response alongside the team
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of professional background in infrastructure, platform, DevOps, or SRE disciplines
- At least 2 years of experience managing engineering personnel or leading a team with accountability for delivery and people
- Extensive and current practical expertise with AWS, encompassing multi-account setups, IAM, and networking
- Demonstrated production Kubernetes experience, preferably with EKS
- Proficiency in Terraform, featuring reusable modules and secure state management
- Background in designing and maintaining CI/CD frameworks across numerous services
- Proficiency in writing code using at least one language among TypeScript, Python, or Go
- Familiarity with regulated industries such as HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 1, SOC 2, or PCI
- Skill in managing a product backlog and communicating technical tradeoffs to stakeholders
- Proficiency in written communication
Qualifications
- Experience with Argo CD, Kafka on MSK, or Redshift and dbt infrastructure
- Familiarity with cloud cost management and FinOps practices
- Background in building multi-region architectures on AWS
- Experience with disaster recovery design and testing
- Knowledge of healthcare systems or the handling of sensitive data
- Prior work within a startup or fast-paced product environment
- History of guiding AI-assisted infrastructure workflows and defining team standards for AI tooling
