Job Description

Motive is hiring a Senior Manager to found and lead its security operations center. The post reports to the CISO and is a ground-floor leadership role: the manager designs the team, its tooling, detection strategy and operating model rather than taking over something mature. This on-site US role carries a base range of $140,000 to $200,000 USD.

Responsibilities cover the full cycle of spotting and responding to threats: detection build-out, around-the-clock response, proactive hunts, intel gathering, analytics, and safeguarding endpoints and workloads. Coverage extends to the production cloud services, APIs and data platforms that support Motive's fleet, driver safety, spend, workforce and AI vision products, as well as the connected device fleet. Corporate systems such as endpoints, identity, SaaS tools, networks and email are included too. Detection content is managed as code, coverage is mapped against MITRE ATT&CK, and gaps are closed in order of risk. The manager also leads incident response, acts as incident commander for major events, and briefs executives.

The listing describes a SOC that is AI-first and automation-driven from the outset. Eight-plus years across SOC operations, incident handling, detection build work or threat intel is the target, with three of those years spent managing people. They should be hands-on, have built or substantially rebuilt a SOC, and have real depth in both production cloud security and corporate security operations. Monitoring of AWS and Kubernetes, attack paths built on identity, and concrete use of AI in day-to-day operations are emphasized. Experience running 24/7 coverage across time zones is valued.

Responsibilities

  • Design the SOC's operating model, runbooks, escalation paths and hiring plan
  • Choose the round-the-clock coverage approach, whether in-house, MDR-assisted or hybrid
  • Own detection strategy and close coverage gaps in order of risk
  • Bring detection coverage to production and cloud systems in partnership with the platform team
  • Lead significant incidents as commander and brief executives
  • Own security telemetry and report on MTTD, MTTR, coverage and alert precision
  • Build a proactive hunting practice driven by hypotheses, plus a threat-intel capability
  • Build AI-enabled triage, enrichment and investigation automation

Requirements

  • Eight-plus years in SOC work, incident handling, detection engineering or threat intel
  • Three or more years of team leadership
  • Recent, personal work writing detections, running investigations and building automation
  • Experience standing up or substantially rebuilding a SOC
  • Practical use of SIEM, EDR, SOAR and cloud-native telemetry tools
  • Understanding of monitoring cloud platforms and containers; experience with AWS and Kubernetes is a strong asset
  • Understanding of identity-based attack paths across SSO, OAuth, MFA and privilege escalation
  • Proven incident command, including clear communication with executives
  • Concrete, demonstrated use of AI in security operations

Qualifications

  • Track record creating round-the-clock staffing and managing groups in several time zones
  • Background in transportation, logistics, IoT, connected devices or critical infrastructure

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Medical, pharmacy, vision and dental coverage
  • Paid vacation and paid sick leave
  • Disability protection, both short-term and long-term
  • Life insurance
  • 401(k) contribution
  • Benefit eligibility rules apply
