Job Description

Twilio is recruiting a Senior Manager of Software Engineering (L5) to lead the engineering group behind its Know Your Customer and compliance platform. The position is remote and based in India, across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Maharashtra and New Delhi.

The group runs Trust Hub, Twilio's KYC platform, along with the compliance APIs and operations tooling that outside customers use to provision phone numbers and that internal engineering teams rely on. The manager is responsible for people strategy, delivery and stakeholder relationships for a system that handles millions of requests every day.

This suits a senior engineering leader whose background includes building and running cloud-native distributed platforms that stay up under heavy load. Writing code every day is not expected, but the manager must be comfortable taking part in architecture reviews and assessing technical proposals credibly. The posting also asks the manager to encourage engineers to make use of LLMs and agentic development tools.

Priorities center on delivery planning for compliance services used by outside customers, along with internal platform APIs and operations tooling, balanced against product commitments and investment in operations. Occasional travel may be needed for in-person project or team gatherings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery planning for the Compliance Domain, spanning customer services, internal APIs and ops tooling
  • Translate long-range technical strategy into quarterly milestones with principal and staff engineers
  • Lead adoption of AI coding assistants and agentic tools and track their effect on team velocity
  • Hold responsibility for reliability, incident handling, on-call wellbeing and security posture
  • Coordinate with product management and dependent engineering teams to gather feedback from both customer groups
  • Apply a clear method for choosing between competing external, platform and tooling demands
  • Write updates on strategy, progress and risk for senior engineering leaders and partners across functions
  • Hire, develop and retain engineers at every level from mid-level to staff

Requirements

  • Fifteen-plus years building software, with at least five of them in engineering management
  • Experience leading a team of 10 or more engineers while managing individual contributors directly
  • Hands-on history building cloud-native distributed platforms that stay reliable under load
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as Lambda, EKS, DynamoDB and Kafka, plus Kubernetes and Terraform
  • Demonstrated success driving AI tool adoption within an engineering team
  • Track record of delivering complex software on schedule and at high quality
  • Experience running agile delivery and measuring team health with data
  • Experience taking charge of uptime for costly-to-fail services, covering incident response and on-call duty
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholders whose priorities compete

Qualifications

  • Background guiding a group that develops internal platforms or ops tools for fellow engineers
  • Experience guiding a team through change, including onboarding and reshaping its processes

Core Skills

  • Competitive pay
  • Generous time off
  • Parental and wellness leave
