Airbnb is seeking a Senior Manager, Technical Brand & Content to lead technical storytelling, editorial output, and external developer presence. Founded in 2007, Airbnb connects millions of hosts and guests globally through unique stays and experiences, supported by cross-functional technology teams solving complex engineering challenges at scale.
This remote-eligible position sits within the Tech Operations and Programs group, offering direct access to the CTO and engineering leaders. The successful candidate will build an autonomous editorial function from the ground up, moving away from manufactured credibility to showcase genuine technical work in infrastructure, data, and applied AI. Core duties involve running the engineering blog end to end, developing public profiles for technical staff, managing conference strategies and academic partnerships, and linking content initiatives directly to talent acquisition outcomes.
This role suits experienced technical communicators who possess deep editorial craft, systems design literacy, and the ability to drive cross-functional alignment without formal authority. Candidates must thrive with minimal inherited processes and enjoy shaping the public narrative for world-class engineering organizations.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end editorial operations of the Airbnb Tech Blog by sourcing topics, coaching authors, editing drafts, and coordinating legal, security, and comms reviews
- Identify cross-team technical narratives to publish cohesive sets of articles while supporting specialized domain publishing
- Establish the public presence of engineers and technical leaders through bylines, speaking engagements, speaker coaching, and close partnership with the CTO
- Own distribution channels by establishing a canonical home on an Airbnb-owned domain, creating video surfaces, and aligning social media strategy
- Direct external presence strategies including conference participation, sponsorships, hosted events, academic collaborations, and technical media relationships
- Oversee the open source presence to ensure accuracy, proper maintenance, and alignment with company branding goals
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to measure the impact of brand content on senior pipeline inbound flow and offer acceptance rates
Requirements
- Substantial professional background in technical content, developer relations, engineering communications, or technical editorial work with direct collaboration alongside engineers
- Technical fluency capable of holding a systems design conversation, reading design docs, and evaluating draft technical posts
- Demonstrated editorial judgment with hands-on experience editing technical drafts while preserving the author's voice
- Proven ability to influence without authority by motivating busy senior personnel to produce output
- Strong program discipline regarding end-to-end management of events, budgets, and external vendors
- Measurement literacy focused on connecting brand initiatives to funnel outcomes without relying on vanity impressions
- Strong risk judgment regarding legal, security, and compliance publishing constraints
- Residency in a U.S. state where Airbnb, Inc. currently maintains a registered entity
Qualifications
- Experience migrating a technical publication between platforms, including SEO and redirect work
- Experience running or fixing an open source program
- Experience helping a senior executive build a public technical presence
- Familiarity with AI and machine learning engineering topics, academic communications, or research publications
- Video or multi-format content production experience
